The Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC) party no longer exists as a political party in Kenya, the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu has revealed.

In an official notice, Nderitu revealed that the party resolved to voluntarily dissolve following a special national delegated Congress held on Friday, February 7, 2025.

According to Nderitu, the party ceased to exist on March 7, 2025.

"Pursuant to sections 9 and 34C of the Political Parties Act, Cap 7D, and paragraph 22 of the second schedule to the Political Parties Act, it is notified for the information of the general public that Amani National Congress at its special national delegated Congress of Friday, February 7, 2025, resolved to voluntarily dissolve in line with the ANC party constitution," the notice read in part.

The dissolution follows the ANC's decision to fold and merge with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on January 17, 2025.

UDA and ANC merged to form a party called the United Democratic Alliance Party in a bid to continue the expansion of Ruto's party into the Western region.

UDA chairperson Cecil Mbarire announced that the ruling party would be rebranding following the merger. She noted that changes would be made to the party logo and colours, among other brand identities of UDA.

Following the dissolution, ANC's leaders will be incorporating ANC's secretariat members, including directors and staff who will support the direction of the new formation.

The ruling party, UDA, is undergoing many changes; just a week ago, the party signed an agreement with Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Party (ODM) on working together.

In a move to forge unity, both Ruto and Raila revealed that it was important to put aside their differences and work together to take Kenya ahead. While the agreement aims to foster national unity and address pressing socio-economic issues, some UDA members have expressed concerns about the implications of this partnership.

While the ruling party gets new additions, it is also suffering losses as some parties detach from it. On Wednesday, the Democratic Party of Kenya (DP), linked to CS Justin Mutur, issued a notice of withdrawal from the coalition led by President William Ruto.

In the letter to the coalition secretariat and the Registrar of Political Parties, the party said, "Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments."
