Lawyer Morara Kebaso has offered to refund all Kenyans who donated money during his campaign fundraising.
In a post on his social media page on Friday, July 25, Kebaso stated that the refund is primarily intended for individuals who feel their support was misunderstood as political endorsement.
He requested anyone seeking a refund to respond to his post with the transaction record for verification purposes.
Kebaso added that once the message is verified, he will refund the full amount to those who contributed.
"If you need a refund for any contribution you made to me when I was raising funds, kindly reply below with the M-Pesa message or check your M-Pesa statement and recover the M-Pesa reference code. I would like to refund any Kenyan who may have thought that the contributions were a motivation for me to seek leadership," his statement reads.
He explained that the contributions might have been perceived as encouraging him to pursue leadership roles, which was not his intention.
Kebaso added that he cannot allow anyone to accuse him of conning citizens and being called a beggar, since it is damaging his reputation after quitting politics.
"I have been traumatised every day for looking like a thief. I am not ready to carry that burden into my future. So if refunding makes me a child, then call me Morara, the baby boy. But I need to get this load off my back and get lighter for a flight," he added.
On September 4, 2024, Kebaso appealed to the public to help him raise Ksh 1.2 million to purchase a public address system, among other necessities, to help him in his campaigns.
Kebaso, after the contributions, informed the public that he had already purchased a 'super clear presidential address system' to continue with his national visits.
Citizens' responses were overwhelming, and his mobile money account quickly reached a limit capacity of Ksh 500,000. He asked the contributors to pause as he found other alternatives to receive their contributions.
"Good evening. I thank you all for your contributions towards our mission. The mobile money account is full, and the transaction limit has been exhausted. Kindly, I request you to stop sending until tomorrow. Please," he told his followers.
