A Form Three student from the Elburgon DEB Secondary School was allegedly shot and killed by police during a protest near Elburgon Police Station on Friday, March 14.

The residents of Elburgon had taken to the streets to protest the mysterious death of a popular mechanic, Godfrey Ngugi (also known as FB), whose body was discovered after he went missing on March 9.

According to the protesters, the student's body was abandoned by the roadside for hours before the police retrieved it and took it to Molo Sub County Mortuary.

The unrest, which lasted more than two hours, saw the residents clash with the police, throwing stones and attempting to damage the police station, which they accused of being a crime scene.

Officers used tear gas and allegedly fired live rounds in the air in a bid to disperse the protestors. One of the bullets caught up with the student, killing him.

The irate residents were protesting the increased cases of insecurity in the area, with another activist by the name of Richard Otieno in January, and are demanding justice and investigations.

"It's barely a month since we buried our youth representative, and now we have another death. The horrific part is that he was killed and thrown behind the police station. What is happening in Elburgon? Where are we heading to?" Irate residents aired their frustrations during the protests.

Reacting to the heartbreaking incidents, Molo Member of Oarkiament Kuria Kimani has condemned the killings and ordered an immediate probe into the events that unfolded and led to the deaths of the student and the youth.

According to the MP, the incidents are unfortunate and against the principle of peaceful coexistence among members of society.

"In response to these events, I have reached out to the relevant authorities, asking them to carry out a quick and thorough investigation into what happened," MP Kimani ordered.

However, the MP has advised the residents to refrain from taking matters into their own hands.

'While we demand swift and thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice, I strongly urge members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Acts of mob justice, however justified they may seem in the heat of the moment, only breed further violence and lawlessness," the MP advised.

He has asked the residents to remain calm and allow the investigation to unfold without interference.
