Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has accused President William Ruto’s administration of playing a role in her removal from office.

Addressing the press on Tuesday evening, Mwangaza claimed she was impeached because she refused to bow to the pressures of political puppeteers who, she alleged, sought to use her position for their own selfish gains.

According to Mwangaza, her refusal to compromise her principles made her a target of the current regime, adding that the impeachment was not based on legitimate grounds but was instead a politically motivated scheme.

She went on to describe her impeachment process as a sham, asserting that her removal was primarily orchestrated by male politicians who manipulated the system to oust her.

“My removal was not a reflection of the people's will but rather a calculated move by political competitors and the National Government, who sought to punish me for refusing to be politically manipulated,” Mwangaza claimed.

She added, “During my tenure as Governor, I remained steadfast in my commitment to serving the people of Meru with integrity, transparency, and accountability.”

Taking a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza government, the former governor alleged that instead of upholding the rule of law, the administration actively influenced the outcome, ensuring that the voices of Meru residents who elected her were ignored.

During the press conference, Mwangaza vowed to pursue all legal avenues to clear her name and expose the injustices she claimed had been perpetrated against her.

She also called on all Kenyans, including civil society organisations and the international community, to stand with her in condemning what she described as a blatant abuse of power by the current administration.

“In the coming days, I will be exploring all legal and constitutional avenues to challenge this injustice. I will also continue to engage with the people of Meru to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met,” Mwangaza said.

“To the people of Meru County, I thank you for your unwavering support and belief in my leadership. Your voices matter, and I will continue to fight for the development and progress of our beloved county,” she added.

Mwangaza’s sentiments come barely five days after the High Court upheld the Senate decision to impeach her on grounds that her dismissal by parliament followed the law.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye on March 14, dismissed her petition stating that the impeachment process followed the proper legal procedures.
