In a statement on his official X account on Saturday, March 22, INJECT Party leader Morara Kebaso slammed the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what he termed 'tribal-driven politics'.
Morara, who referenced a video of the former DP in Machakos, criticised Gachagua’s resolute focus on Mt Kenya's politics, saying that this will continue fueling poor leadership and disunity in the country.
In the video, which Morara shared on his account, Gachagua claimed that Mt Kenya has the potential to remain in government for the next 100 years.
Gachagua further claimed that the leaders from the region will also fly high in the next general election in Nairobi County.
In response to the claims, Morara asked, "How do I convince Gen Zs that this speech by a leader of such great influence is the change they were fighting for? I found it difficult to continue associating the Gen Z movement with this."
The issue of tribalism has been a thorn in Gachagua's back that won't go away. It was one of the grounds used to oust him from his position in October of last year.
According to Morara, Kenya's long history with tribal-centered politics has played a key role in promoting corruption and accountability.
Morara, who has in recent months been spotted associating with Gachagua and other opposition leaders, hinted at a possible point of differences with Gachagua, saying that he will not allow the genz's goal to unite the country to be derailed by tribal politics.
"The leaders of the opposition should unite. I agree 100 per cent. But what is the glue that will hold us together? Do we have shared values? Are we uniting to replace the problem with another problem?" he said.
Since last year, the self-proclaimed Gen Z leader gained fame after publicly criticising President William Ruto’s government by exposing unfulfilled projects through social media videos.
Last year in October, Kebaso launched the INJECT party, which he confirmed will field candidates in all elective posts in the 2027 elections.
"INJECT Party of Kenya will sweep Parliament, Senate, and all elective seats like a flash flood. People of Kenya, you are welcome to your office in Kahawa Sukari, Kiu River Road, 6th South Avenue. Pamoja Tujenge Chama," he said.
