Two students from Ramba High School succumbed on Saturday after falling into a septic tank that caved in at their school.
The incident is reported to have occurred at around 6 pm and the two students who passed on were hanging out together with their colleagues when the tragedy struck.
Taking to social media, Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Omollo mourned the two students noting that investigations had been launched over the matter.
"Another tragedy! Saddened to learn two young boys at Ramba Boys High School have lost their lives after a septic tank collapsed! May their young souls know peace, even as we continue investigating the circumstances," he stated.
Alongside the two, several other students were said to have escaped without injuries. However, two more sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
The form four students had reportedly just returned from an AIDS awareness rally and were standing on top of the septic tank just moments before it caved in.
The deceased two reportedly sank into the septic tank, necessitating the help of first responders from the Kenya Red Cross.
Officials from the service reportedly worked through the night to retrieve the bodies from the collapsed septic tank.
Following the accident, parents and other Kenyans online used their platforms to call out the negligence that had led to the tragic accident.
A statement by Siaya Governor James Orengo detailed his sincere condolences to the school and the parents affected assuring him of his administration's commitment to safeguard the safety of learners across the county.
Orengo also urged the school community to maintain calm as the investigations into the matter continued.
Unfortunately, the incident is not a lone one as tragic accidents of similar proportions have continued to ravage Kenyan high schools. From dorm fires to road accidents, schools have seen it all.
