According to witnesses, the accident occurred after the bus which was ferrying pupils to school lost control and overturned along the slippery road.

Videos of the tragedy, shared on various social media platforms, showed the school bus lying on its side on the road, with several people gathered around it.

The footage also showed the school bus extensively damaged, with broken side mirrors, windows, and windscreen, highlighting the severity of the accident.

The accident, which occurred at around 7 am, resulted in a major traffic snarl-up along the ever-busy road, with several motorists seen stuck along the highway as some attempted to evade the escalating gridlock.

The bus has since been towed to Athi River Police Station, awaiting inspection, as police officers launch investigations to establish the root cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Mavoko accident comes just hours after two people died, while several others sustained critical injuries following an accident in the Sobea area of Nakuru County.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred after a 14-seater matatu belonging to a popular bus company lost control and rammed into a truck, killing two people on the spot.

The accident, which happened at around 5 am, took place while the matatu, carrying 10 passengers, was heading towards Nakuru Town from Salgaa.

Those injured were rushed to Nakuru Provincial Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were also ferried to the same hospital for preservation, awaiting identification and subsequent post-mortem.
