Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has alleged that there are plans by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officers to arrest him.

Addressing members of the public on Thursday, March 27, the former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader said he received reports that EACC detectives were planning to raid his office at Donholm in Nairobi either this week or next week.

The vocal legislator noted that he was informed by credible sources that a meeting involving high-profile government officials was held last week to plot the arrest and coerce him to join the current administration.

According to Owino, the well-orchestrated scheme was also aimed at bringing him down politically and tainting his growing reputation as the most preferred politician in Kenya.

The MP claimed the EACC officers intended to arrest and impose trumped-up graft charges against him in an attempt to stop his criticism of the government.

"I was reliably informed by very serious sources that this week, EACC detectives were to come at our offices in Donholm, if not this week, then next week, they are to come and arrest me," he said.

"Their intention is very clear, that we need to put Babu down and tell people there are corruption allegations in Embakasi East," the legislator added.

Babu Owino also went ahead to dismiss reports of allegedly bribing the Auditor General, Nancy Gathungu, to manipulate the audit findings of Embakasi East.

While taking a swipe at the government, the MP called on the EACC officials to follow the rule of law, act independently, and avoid negative influence by the current administration.

"I want to tell the EACC, you are an independent body, do not get involved in this politics, my office is very open, anytime you want to get information on any project you can visit," the MP stated.

"There is no conflict of interest; none of my companies has been awarded any job in Embakasi East constituency; none of my friends has been awarded any tender in my constituency because there is a laid out procedure of procurement," he added.

According to Babu Owino, the top-ranked MP in Kenya, he would continue to deliver for his constituents despite constant intimidation from top government officials.
