Four individuals were on Thursday sentenced to different jail terms amounting to a total of 115 years in prison for various murder crimes they committed separately in Kisumu County.

In a series of landmark rulings delivered by Justice Shariff Mwanaisha, Basil Omondi Otieno, also known as Aboi, was handed a 30-year sentence for the brutal murder of Ismael Salle Asman in Kombedu village in the lakeside city.

Otieno was facing charges before the justice department after fatally stabbing Asman multiple times in the chest during a confrontation and then fleeing the scene. He, however, managed to evade arrest for a year, only to be apprehended later, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

In the case, the prosecution presented evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic analysis, proving that Asman died from severe internal bleeding caused by the deep stab wounds.

In her judgment, Justice Shariff condemned the brutality of the crime and delivered a 30-year custodial sentence.

In the second case, another accused person, Ouma Alfayo Marenya, received a 30-year prison term for the murder of Vincent Thomas Otieno, also known as Chief, at Gudka Car Wash in Kisumu County.

Marenya was sentenced following an altercation outside a butcher’s shop, where he fatally stabbed Otieno in the abdomen, causing severe internal injuries that led to his death.

In another concerning violent case, Richard Akombo Gori, also known as Bahati, was sentenced to 35 years for the intentional homicide of Kevin Ohiambo Odinga.

Gori, along with accomplices who remain at large, forcibly entered Odinga’s home and abducted him before his body was found partially burned.

During the ruling, Justice Shariff highlighted the calculated and brutal nature of the crime and imposed the sentence as a reflection of its severity.

Further, two individuals, Robert Kipyegon Korir and Geoffrey Kipyegon Mutai, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of Dennis Kiplangat Rono in Kadinda/Kambeje village.

The incident followed a dispute over Ksh 800; the two men violently assaulted Rono, causing severe head injuries that led to his death, according to documents presented in court by the ODPP.
