Muthwani Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Dominic Maitha has spoken for the first time after reports of his disappearance emerged.
Speaking after his re-appearance, Maitha confirmed that his life is in danger, clarifying that he was not given any money by Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau.
“I know my life is at risk, but I am not worried. When I joined politics, I was ready for anything that could happen. I want to make it clear that I was never given any money by MP Makau."
"Those are lies and propaganda. Some bloggers were even paid to send me threatening messages, which I have shared on social media,” said Maitha.
According to him, he went into hiding after noticing that unknown people were following him after a political meeting on Monday, March 24.
Fearing for his safety, he fled to Nairobi, booked a hotel, and switched off his phone. His sudden disappearance raised concern, leading to a missing person report.
He claimed that the threats against him are being organised by the Machakos County government and says that he remains firm in his political stand despite the situation.
“All these are organised by the County Government of Machakos. I have no regrets to say that, and it will not stop me from carrying out my role,” he stated.
Maitha added that he will continue to support the County Assembly of Machakos Speaker Ann Kiusya and he will stand by her.
He clarified the allegation that he had traveled to Voi saying that he was in Nairobi and never left his hotel room.
“I supported Kiusya’s election, and everyone knows that. I have received information that some of my colleagues were told I had traveled to Voi, but that is false. I had not left my hotel room since I checked in. I even provided the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with proof of my payment for two nights and food,” he explained.
He also dismissed claims that he had joined a political group of opposing Kiusya stating that she has been intimidated and he will support her.
Maitha also called on Governor Wavinya Ndeti to let MCAs do their work without interference. He warned him for impeaching the speaker for personal reasons.
He confirmed that his disappearance was a planned move to protect himself as political tensions continued to rise.
After reappearing, Maitha went to Machakos police station to report his ordeal, accompanied by his wife and supporters.
