Super Metro Sacco has claimed that a saloon car is to blame for an early morning accident involving one of its buses.

According to a statement issued by the Sacco, a saloon car ferrying local brew was weaving across the service lane on Thika Road while heading towards Thika town at the Jomoko area on Saturday morning.

The Sacco, while providing an account of the accident, said the saloon car hit the Super Metro bus, which lost control while attempting to avoid further collisions.

The bus overturned and landed in a ditch. The saloon car also landed in a ditch on the busy highway. No casualties were reported from the incident.

“Preliminary information indicates that the accident was caused by a white saloon car, which was reportedly overloaded with jerrycans of Muratina and was swerving carelessly across the road, as observed by multiple drivers in the vicinity,” the bus company said.

Adding, “The saloon car collided with the side of the Super Metro bus, forcing the bus driver to take evasive action. Unfortunately, while attempting to avoid further collision, the bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch.”

According to Super Metro management, the incident is being probed by police from the Thika Police Station.

“We urge anyone seeking official details about the incident to direct inquiries to Thika Police Station for accurate and updated information,” the company said in its statement.

The company, which is under public and government scrutiny after an incident that saw a passenger succumb after being pushed out of a moving bus earlier this month, insists it remains “committed to upholding the highest standards of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.”

Adding, “We are cooperating fully with the police as they investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.”

The accident happened exactly five days after a Transport Licencing and Appeals Board lifted a suspension placed on Super Metro by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) after the reported fatal incident.

In an official notice dated Thursday, March 20, NTSA suspended the license over the company's lack of adherence to the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other set regulations.
