The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from the Mutitu Police Station have apprehended a 33-year-old man caught with an assortment of government attire.

In a statement on Tuesday, April 1, the DCI reported that the officers were initially pursuing the suspect for threatening to assault and kill.

However, upon his capture at Itiko Village, a search was conducted at his home, where they recovered items of clothing belonging to the Administration Police Service (APS) and the National Youth Service (NYS).

Among the items recovered were a senior APS officer's sweater, a former maroon APS sweater, a green jungle sweater, three jungle belts, two pairs of APS trousers, three black berets, three jungle t-shirts, and four pairs of green socks.

An NYS green sweater and two NYS shirts were also recovered from the raid.

The suspect is currently still in custody and being processed as he awaits arraignment to be charged.

His arrest was not a lone occurrence; several other criminals have previously been caught wearing police uniforms and military fatigues while committing crimes.

In a brazen heist on March 20, a gang of robbers posing as police officers raided a petrol station in Wajir, where they terrorized the attendants and left them tied up, making away with Ksh30,000.

Two of the five suspects were immediately apprehended after a distress call from the station reached nearby police officers.

They were found in possession of a mallet, an AP jungle jacket, a military jungle trouser, a military jungle jacket, and other incriminating items.

Another suspect masquerading as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was apprehended in October 2024 after terrorising Narok residents for months.

He was also found with uniforms from both the Kenya Air Force and the Kenya Army, as well as identification cards bearing different names.
