Drama unfolded on Wednesday, April 2, after Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu dared his fellow counterparts, Danson Mungatana (Tana River) and Tabitha Mutinda (Nominated), to swear before God that they did not receive Ksh10 million to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The early morning discussion on TV47 got heated when Nyutu challenged his colleagues as he dismissed their claims that they voted to impeach the former DP over propagating divisive politics.

“Senator Mungatana and Senator Tabitha want to mislead Kenyans regarding the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. Both of them voted 'yes' on this motion, and I challenge them—given all the reasons Mungatana has provided—to swear before God that they did not receive Ksh10 million,” Nyutu stated.

“These other shenanigans of ‘He (Gachagua) was only talking about Mt. Kenya’ are just distractions. The major motivation is clear. Let them swear before God that they did not receive Ksh10 million each!” he further asserted.

The allegations triggered a heated verbal exchange, with Mungatana and Tabitha lashing out at Nyutu over his assertions, which they termed false.

The exchange prompted the show’s host, Fred Indimuli, to step in, though he appeared at a loss for how to quell the tension.

In their defense, Mungatana and Tabitha, both allies of President William Ruto, demanded the opportunity to respond to the allegations, likening the debate to a session in the Senate.

Mungatana went further, challenging Nyutu to bring a Bible, seemingly ready to swear before God over the claims.

“I want to tell Nyutu that I did not receive Ksh10,000... Ksh10 whatever (sic). It is a very shady assertion, and we are asking him, as we say in the House, ‘he who asserts must prove.’ Can he bring the Bible here? In fact, if he were serious, he would have come with a Bible so we could swear,” he stated.

“But again, if you do not prove what you allege, you must apologize and withdraw the allegations,” Mungatana added.

This, however, did not sit well with Nyutu, an ally of Gachagua, who insisted it was his turn to speak and that he was not getting his fair share of airtime.

The debate was finally quelled after Indimuli managed to calm the tensions and steer the discussion back to the original topic.

The latest comes as Ruto is currently on his Mt. Kenya development tour that even saw him tour Gachagua’s backyard in Nyeri.
