Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has mourned his long-time personal aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, as a " dependable rock" following his death on Wednesday evening.

In a heartfelt statement, Odinga described Oduor as more than just a bodyguard, stating that he was a trusted confidant and a pillar of support for his family for decades.

"It is with profound shock and sadness that I announce the passing of my personal ide and bodyguard George Oduor this evening in Nairobi after short illness," he said.

"George has been a part of Jaramogi's and my family since the late 80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together," Raila mourned.

He praised Oduor for his hard work, loyalty, and strong character, which he says made him a reliable support through both difficult and successful times.

"He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods," he added.

Odinga expressed deep sorrow over George's loss, saying he will miss Oduor. He extended condolences to Oduor’s widow, Carol George, his family, colleagues, and friends.

"I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already. To his wife, Carol George, entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida’s and the entire Jaramogi family's sincere condolences at this devastating loss," he added.

Oduor served as the aide and bodyguard in Odinga’s security team for over three decades. His demise has been seen as a big loss to Raila, his team, and those who knew him.

Several leaders mourned Oduor's passing, praising him for his loyalty, hard work, and dedication in his line of duty for years.

Nairobi Senator mourned Oduor's passing, stating that it is not easy working in Raila's bodyguard and praising him for his dedicated job.

"Being Baba’s bodyguard is easily the toughest job in Kenyan politics. George Oduor did it with quiet grace and steadfast dedication. Back when I was new in mzee’s circles, I would never have got the hang of things were it not for George’s guidance".

"See, you can’t just 'be around” Mzee. It’s very, very complicated, and I will always be grateful to George for holding my hand. May his soul rest in peace," Sifuna stated.
