The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has arrested two suspects linked to a March 11 incident in Malaa, Machakos, where they pretended to be Good Samaritans before robbing and assaulting a woman.

In a statement released on Friday, April 4, the DCI confirmed that the incident occurred when the victim was driving to her residence along Kangundo Road, and her vehicle skidded off the road and got stuck.

“The victim was driving along Ruai-Kangundo Road, heading to her residence at Malaa, when her vehicle skidded off the road and became stuck,” the detectives stated.

According to the investigators, the victim was approached by the two suspects and their five accomplices, who pretended to assist her.

The detectives explained that the suspects' intentions quickly shifted, and they forced the woman into the car's boot before taking control of the vehicle.

“As she attempted to extricate her car from the mud, she was approached by the two suspects and their five accomplices, who pretended to assist her. However, their intent quickly turned sinister as they forced her into the car's boot, taking control of the vehicle,” the detectives stated.

The suspects then drove along Kangundo Road and stopped near Nairobi River at Kwa Mbao within Dandora, where they removed the woman from the boot and took turns assaulting her.

The detective added that the victim's distress caught the attention of another motorist, who intervened. The suspects, fearing exposure, abandoned the woman and fled in her vehicle.

According to a report by the DCI, the victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment, and the incident was reported at Kwa Mbao Police Post.

The detective revealed that the victim lost several household items she had purchased, her vehicle, and money from her accounts.

“Out of the mud and into the hands of the inhuman pack, the victim lost household items she had purchased, her vehicle, and money swept from her accounts. Worst still was the traumatic experience from the people she hoped were out to save her,” DCI stated.

Forensic analysis and support from detectives traced the two suspects back to the crime scene, leading to their arrest.

The detectives mentioned that the suspects led them to the Maringo area of Buruburu sub-county, where the stolen vehicle was recovered, although vandalized and stripped of its wheels. Other stolen exhibits were also recovered.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing, while detectives continue the search for their accomplices.
