Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba, on Sunday, April 6, jested that President William Ruto should visit the Mount Kenya region every three months.
Taking to social media, Wamuchomba noted that President Ruto's visit to the region was a great opportunity for the residents to earn money from attending the rallies. This is after reports emerged that the government spent millions in the mobilisation of crowds, which was spearheaded by governors, MPs, and MCAs, as well as national government administration officers.
"Mr President should visit Mt Kenya every three months. It was a good ATM for the locals and a political mirror for him and his Yes MPs," the vocal MP stated.
However, she cautioned the so-called 'Yes MPs,' noting that they are at risk of losing their seats in the next election, as has been the case before.
According to Wamuchomba, even the president would reportedly only align with popular candidates, thus leaving the lawmakers exposed to being chopped by him as well.
"Just like the last parliament, all 'Yes MPs' will not escape the chopping board. Ruto will align with the popular aspirants. Anyway, no mercy; it’s payback for the impeachment and finance bill pains. Ground is King," she claimed.
Wamuchomba's remarks come just a day after she missed Ruto's presence in her Githunguri Constituency just as he concluded his Mount Kenya region development tour, hours after claiming she had been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A few days before Ruto made the Mount Kenya trip, his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, urged the residents to ensure they were paid to attend the rallies.
"If you are going to listen to lies, ask for a hefty price because lies are a bad thing. Don't accept Ksh200, listening to lies starts from Ksh3,000. Women ululating is worth Ksh10,000, and clapping is Ksh2,000. Laughing in Ksh5,000," he stated.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who also joined the President during his tour, downplayed his presence at some of the rallies, noting it was his obligation as county governor to welcome the President and that Kenyans should not read much into it.
"I have noted frenzied interest in my attendance of the President’s functions in Kieni. Do not read too much into this photo and others shared all over. The presidency must be respected," Governor Kahiga noted.
"The governor of Nyeri received the President of the Republic of Kenya in Nyeri, Kieni Constituency. The governor of Nyeri will still receive the President of the Republic of Kenya on Saturday in both Nyeri Town and Othaya Constituencies. It's important to understand circumstances!"
