A fatal road accident on the evening of Monday, April 7, between a trailer and a Subaru resulted in the deaths of two people and left three others injured at Bobaracho on the Kisii-Sotik highway.
The accident, which was a head-on collision, occurred when the Subaru lost control and veered onto the path of the trailer, which was headed from Kisii to Keroka.
The crash was confirmed by Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui: “The driver of the Subaru failed to keep to his lane and collided head-on with the oncoming trailer.”
“Those who died were in the Subaru and they succumbed to injuries at Ram Hospital and Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they had been rushed for treatment,” he added.
The Subaru had three occupants, one of whom is currently nursing injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the trailer is also undergoing treatment.
The accident on the killer highway comes hot on the heels of a grisly crash on Saturday, April 5, where at least 13 people died, while 11 others were left nursing serious injuries in an accident involving three vehicles.
The collision occurred on Saturday afternoon after three vehicles—a personal car, a 14-seater matatu, and a truck—collided with each other, killing several passengers on the spot.
Following the accident, a team of rescuers from the Kenya Red Cross Society and local traffic police officers arrived at the scene and assisted in removing the victims from the wreckage.
Videos and images shared online showed the matatu extensively damaged with a shattered windscreen, broken seats and windows, and deflated tyres, depicting the extent of the accident.
Meanwhile, the white truck was seen leaning on one side across the road, with significant damage to its front side, while the personal car was also reduced to a wreck.
The Sotik carnage came barely hours after 13 people were rushed to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment after getting involved in an accident on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The accident, which occurred on Friday evening, took place after a Tahmeed Coach from Mombasa to Nairobi reportedly developed brake failure and rammed into several vehicles, including a matatu.
Meanwhile, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Thursday, April 3, called on all players within the road transport sector to put measures in place to ensure safety on roads.
