The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has flagged as fake a circulating letter claiming that the hospital was recruiting over 700 new employees.
Under the undated fake letter, the hospital was inviting applications for 735 positions across 14 departments in the hospital, which include nurses, medical and nursing assistants, IT officers, office secretaries, biomedical technicians, security guards, and storekeepers.
Other departments include cleaners, lab technicians, orthopaedic trauma technologists, emergency medical technologists, public health officers, theatre technicians, theatre nurses, and community health and development officers. Applicants, according to the fake letter, were required to send their application together with their CV by April 20, 2025.
In a statement on its official X account on Sunday, April 20, the hospital described the phoney notice as misleading and warned that it might be an attempt to collect personal information or demand payment for processing fees.
KNH has urged the public to be vigilant, stressing that an applicant is not required to pay any fees in any recruitment process at the hospital.
"Please note that KNH never asks for payment at any stage of recruitment. Always verify job openings through our official website. Stay vigilant and share this message to protect others from fraud," it stated.
The announcement comes hours after the Social Health Authority (SHA) in an X post on Saturday, April 19, also flagged as fake a job advertisement claiming that the authority had several job vacancies across 20 positions.
The fake notice claimed that the authority sought to hire individuals in several departments, including interns, human resource officers, social workers, office assistants, accountants, auditors, storekeepers, drivers, ICT officers, security officers, and cleaners.
Other included clerical officers, field agents, health records officers, supply chain managers, laboratory technicians and psychological counsellors.
"The Social Health Authority (SHA) is currently the health provider in Kenya, established under section 25 of the Act of the Kenyan constitution and designed to provide all healthcare services in all Kenyan healthcare facilities," the fake notice read.
"In order to ensure all Kenyans are registered and required medical services are provided at the time of need without any financial burden, the authority does hereby advertise for various job vacancies in various fields to help in acquiring qualified and enough SHA staff as listed below," it added.
Qualifications for all the posts were listed synonymously to represent all the positions, starting with being a holder of a degree, diploma, or certificate from a recognised learning institution.
Other qualifications according to the fake post included being a Kenyan citizen of 18 years and above, of sound mind, and a holder of the national identification card, a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin, a Social Health Authority (SHA) number, and a National Social Security Fund (NSSF) number.
The fake notice also urged Kenyans to send in their applications by April 27 to an email address that was not aligned with the authority.
