The family of a 14-year-old girl who was mauled by a lion in Kajiado County has come out to explain the circumstances behind the painful incident that has left the village of Emakoko gripped in fear and shock.

According to Kennedy Kigen, the father of Peace Mwendwa—the girl mauled by the wild animal—his three children were inside a house within the homestead when the beast appeared.

The animal, after jumping over the makeshift fence, immediately entered the house with the three children, unaware of what to do with the wildcat.

The father narrated that he heard screams and rushed to see what was happening, only to see his child being dragged by the lioness.

''I was nearby when I heard screams coming from the compound. On checking, I was shocked to see that it was my child who was being dragged by the lioness. Our attempts to rescue her were unsuccessful," Kigen narrated.

''They should just help because it is the life of my child that has been ended in a very unfortunate manner.''

Kigen's account was corroborated by the village elder, who confirmed that their efforts to pursue the wild cat ended in disarray when they stumbled upon Mwende's lifeless body.

''The lioness came to this homestead at around 7pm and found three children in the house. Soon after, it caught one child and dragged her to the river," Charles Romo, the village elder, told the media.

''We attempted recovery efforts for the entire night, only for us to stumble upon her lifeless body, which was 80 per cent eaten.''

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), the first incident occurred on a ranch bordering the southern edge of Nairobi National Park, where a lioness lethally attacked a 14-year-old girl.

The girl, according to KWS, was mauled in Savannah near the Nairobi National Park, with the authority revealing that the details of the incident are yet to be confirmed.

The lion is reported to be from the Nairobi National Park and is said to have met the girl after it accessed a residential compound within the Savannah Ranch.

Shockingly, videos and images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the wildebeest still roaming within the area, with the KWS officers yet to capture it.

The area residents, in their response, demanded that the government erect an electric fence along the game corridor from Kitengela to Kajiado to help contain the surge in human-wildlife conflicts.
