Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has demanded an incident report from Mash Poa bus company after a woman was allegedly drugged, robbed, and sexually assaulted in one of its buses en route to Mombasa last week.

In a letter directed to the company's manager dated Monday, April 21,  the Senator said that the company should have a report detailing the actions the staff and management of the company took to respond to the incident.

Orwoba has said that the company should table the report to her before the end of Tuesday, April 22.

"Given the gravity of the situation, I urge you to prioritise this matter and provide a full incident report detailing the events as they transpired, including any actions taken by your staff and management in response to the incident," she stated.

"Please submit the requested report to my attention by the close of business on Tuesday, 22nd April. I trust that you will treat this request with the urgency and seriousness it demands. I look forward to your swift response," she stated.

Orwoba noted that the incident triggers serious concerns in regard to the safety of passengers who use the bus service, and the report will be fundamental in ensuring that the woman receives justice.

"As you may be aware, Ms Omondi (victim) was reportedly drugged, robbed, and sexually assaulted while travelling on your service. This shocking event raises serious concerns about passenger safety and the protocols in place to protect individuals travelling with your company," she stated.

In her official social media handles, the victim claimed that she was drugged by a passenger seated next to her on her way to Mombasa from Nairobi on Monday, April 14. According to the victim, she went unconscious after a passenger, whom she describes as a middle-aged man, gave her two cups of tea to hold.

The woman claimed that she woke up disoriented at the Coast General Hospital, where she was informed that she had been brought in by a Mash Poa conductor and a boda boda rider.

After the incident, the woman claimed that the company refused to give her details of the passenger who allegedly dragged her, while the Coast General Hospital also refused to open a file on her case.

According to the victim, she lacked some clothes, which she had worn, and her personal belongings, including cash and a phone, which she alleges had been stolen.

"This is a bus company I have used diligently since I moved to Diani, almost three times a month. Most of the Nairobi team knows me by name," she stated.

"I need an explanation of how I woke up in the hospital without some clothes, yet I had them when I boarded the bus. I am losing it because I don't have answers, and all I'm getting from Mash is We don't know," she added.
