The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced a seven-day application window for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates seeking to enrol in various tertiary programmes.

The placement service, in a notice on Wednesday, April 23, said the application window targeted candidates seeking to enrol in either a degree or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses.

KUCCPS revealed that the application portal would be closed on April 30, upon the lapse of one week, locking out several non-compliant learners who would not have tendered their application on time.

While calling for timely applications, the placement service noted that degree course applications only targeted those who sat for the KCSE in 2024, while TVET courses targeted between 2000 and 2024 KCSE candidates.

Additionally, KUCCPS stated that candidates who sat for their secondary examinations between 2000 and 2024 were also able to enrol in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).

According to the placement service, TVET course applicants would be able to apply for either a diploma, certificate or artisanal courses, while TTC applicants would only be able to apply for teaching courses in specific colleges.

However, KUCCPS noted that degree courses which are only offered in certified public and private universities were limited to candidates who scored a mean Grade of C+ and above.

"1 week to go! Have you submitted your application for a degree or TVET programmes? Yesterday was the best time to apply; today is the second-best time. Do not wait for the last minute. Apply now!" KUCCPS announced.

The notice comes hardly five days after KUCCPS officials expressed concerns that more than half of the students who scored Grade C+ and above had yet to tender their applications.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, April 17, KUCCPS Director for Placement and Career Development, John Oluoch, said more than 100,000 candidates who qualified to join the university had not submitted their applications.

He went ahead to reveal that out of the 246,000 students who attained Grade C+ and above, only 104,000 candidates had successfully submitted their applications, with less than a fortnight remaining before the portal closes.

"We are nearly getting to half of the total number of students, so we are urging those who have not been able to do so to apply, and they should not wait for the last minute to struggle and access the portal," Oluoch told candidates.
