There was tension at Ramba Boys High School in Siaya County on Thursday evening after students staged demonstrations demanding the immediate transfer of their school principal.
While demonstrating, the irate learners expressed frustration over what they termed poor leadership and mismanagement by Principal Wycliffe Manoa.
During the protests, which began at around 6 p.m., the students burned the security house, which is situated close to the institution's main gate.
As the demonstrations escalated, the students forced themselves out of the institution and proceeded to protest at a nearby market centre.
In the footage obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the rowdy learners were recorded marching through the nearby market while carrying twigs and chanting their principal's name.
Despite attempts by a section of teachers to calm the students, the adamant learners insisted on the ouster of the principal, maintaining that they would not halt the demonstrations until their demands were met.
The unrest followed an indefinite closure of the institution last month after students went on a rampage protesting the demise of their two colleagues who lost their lives after a septic tank at the school collapsed.
The protests, which took place on March 23 this year, forced the school principal to send the students home after they destroyed property at the school and refused to go to class.
The deceased were Form Four students and were among a group of learners who were standing on top of the septic tank when the accident occurred, a day before the institution's temporary closure.
According to witnesses who spoke to the press, more than eight students were standing on the septic tank before it caved in.
Their deaths were confirmed by the Rarieda Deputy County Commissioner, who revealed that a rescue team was immediately dispatched from Siaya town and successfully retrieved the bodies of the learners.
The two bodies were recovered with the help of community members, after which they were taken to the Bondo Hospital mortuary. The injured students received treatment at local hospitals.
