Super Metro Sacco Limited has announced that it will begin servicing its new route from Kencom at 6am daily, starting tomorrow, Monday, May 5.
In a statement issued on Saturday, May 3, the matatu sacco stated that new services would benefit commuters relying on the vehicles to travel from Community, Upperhill, KNH, Ngong Road, Wanyee, and Satellite to the Kabiria Routes.
The vehicles will be making their pickups and drop-offs at the Kencom Bus Stop. This is the company's latest stop, which is behind the Kencom building near the private parking lot.
"Starting Monday, 5th May 2025, you will be able to find a Super Metro Sacco Matatu at Kencom CBD serving and plying the Community, Upperhill, KNH, Ngong Road, Wanyee, and Satellite to Kabiria Route from as early as 6am," part of the statement read.
"We welcome you all at the Kencom Super Metro Sacco Terminus for A Reliable, Comfortable, Secure and Affordable Public Transport Service."
This comes just weeks after the popular Public Service Vehicle (PSV) sacco faced several obstacles impeding their operations due to frequent bans.
On March 20, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended its operator licence, calling for the company to fully comply with the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other set conditions.
"This is to notify the public that the Authority has suspended Super Metro Limited’s operator licence until the Company fully complies with the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other set conditions," the notice read in part.
A few days later, on March 24, the Sacco would resume operations after the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) overturned NTSA's decision, allowing Super Metro to resume operations pending the inter partes hearing of appeal on March 27.
The short-lived reprieve lasted barely a month, as on April 15, the matatu sacco was instructed to suspend its operations for three days in order to ensure all unmet set conditions were met.
In its ruling, TLAB issued a barrage of orders, including the firing of 269 unqualified drivers and the retesting of 42 more.
"The appellant (Super Metro) shall immediately disengage 269 drivers as per the list marked 'SPM7' annexed to the respondent's replying affidavit sworn on 10th April 2025," part of the orders read.
The Sacco was further ordered to present eight identified vehicles with various violations relating to speed limiters for a compliance check at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.
31 more vehicles with identified compliance inspection issues at the inspection centre are also expected to be presented for reevaluation, and compliance reports submitted to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
