Chief Justice Martha Koome, in a gazette notice dated Friday, May 2, has designated 132 courts across the country with the mandate to handle labour-related cases.
"PURSUANT to paragraph 5(2) of the Employment and Labour Relations Court Act, the Chief Justice designates the Judge of the Court set out in the second column of the Schedule hereto to be responsible for the sub-registry set out in the third column with supervisory jurisdiction over the Magistrates Courts set out in the fifth column and the place of suing and hearing for the purposes of paragraph 6(1) of the Rules shall be construed accordingly," she stated.
In Nairobi County, the courts include Milimani Commercial Courts, Kibera, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts, Dagoretti Law Courts, and Makadara Law Courts.
In Kajiado, the law courts are the Kajiado, Loitoktok Law Courts, and the Ngong Courts.
Machakos County: the courts will include the Machakos Kithimani, Kangundo, Wamunyu, and the Mavoko Law Courts, while in Makueni, the CJ has selected the Makueni, Tawa, Kilungu, and the Makindu Law Courts.
Kitui County: the Kitui Courts, Mutomo Law Courts, Mwingi Law Courts, and the Kyuso Law Courts were selected.
Kiambu County: Koome selected the Thika, Kiambu, Kikuyu, Limuru, Githunguri, Ruiru, Gatundu, and Kamwangi Law Courts were picked to handle the cases.
Garissa County: the Garissa Law Courts and the Dadaab Law Courts will handle the cases, while in Wajir and Mandera, the Wajir Law Courts and the Mandera Law Courts were chosen.
Kisumu County: the Kisumu Law Courts, Winam, Maseno, and the Tamu Law Courts were selected to handle the cases. While in Siaya County, the Siaya, Bondo, Ukwala Law Courts and Madiany Law Courts will handle the cases.
Kisii County: the Kisii, Ogembo, and Etago Law Courts will handle the cases, while in Migori County, the Migori, Kehancha, and Rongo Law Courts were selected.
Homa Bay County: the Homa Bay, Mbita, Ndhiwa, and Oyugis Law Courts were selected. In Nyamira County, the Nyamira and Keroka Law Courts were designated to handle the cases.
Kakamega County: the Kakamega, Mumias, Butere, and Butali Law Courts were selected, while in Vihiga County, the Vihiga Law Courts and Hamisi Law Courts were selected.
Bungoma County: Koome selected the Bungoma, Webuye, Kimilili, and Sirisia law courts, while in Busia County, she selected the Busia Law Courts, Malaba Law Courts, and Port Victoria Law Courts.
Mombasa County: the Mombasa Law Courts and the Shanzu Law Courts were selected, while in Kwale County, Koome selected the Msambweni Law Courts, and the Kwale Law Courts were selected.
Taita Taveta County: the CJ selected the Taita Taveta Law Courts, the Wundany Law Courts, and the Voi Law Courts.
Kilifi County: the Malindi, Kilifi, Kaloleni, and Mariakani Law Courts were selected, while in Tana River County, the Hola Law Courts and Garsen Law Courts were selected, and in Lamu, the Mpeketoni Law Courts and Lamu Law Courts were selected.
Nakuru County: Nakuru, Naivasha, and Molo Law courts were selected, while in Baringo, the Eldama Ravine Kabarnet Law Courts were selected.
Kericho: the Kericho Law Courts were selected, while in Narok, the Narok Law Courts and Kilgoris Law Courts were. In Bomet, the Bomet Law Courts and Sotik Law Courts were.
Uasin Gishu County: the CJ selected the Eldoret Law Courts and Moiben Law Courts, while in Elgeyo/ Marakwet, the Iten Law Court, Tinderet Law Courts, Kapsabet Law Courts, and Kabiyet Law Courts were selected.
Trans Nzoia County: the Kitale Law Courts were chosen; in Turkana County, the Lodwar Law Courts and Kakuma Law Courts were selected, while in West Pokot County, the Kapenguria Law Courts were selected.
Nyeri County: the Nyeri, Othaya, Karatina, and Mukurwe-ini law courts were selected, while in Nyandarua, the Nyahururu, Ol Kalou, and Engineer law courts were selected. In Kirinyaga, the Kerugoya, Gichugu, Baricho, and Wang'uru law courts were selected.
Samburu County: the CJ selected the Maralal law courts, while in Laikipia County, Koome selected the Rumuruti and Nanyuki law courts.
Murang'a County: the Murang'a, Kigumo, Kandara, Kenol, and Kangema law courts were selected.
Meru County: the Meru, Maua, Tigania, Nkubu, and Githongo law courts were selected, while in Embu, the Embu, Runyenjes, and Siakago Law courts were selected to handle the cases.
Tharaka Nithi County: the CJ selected the Chuka Law courts and Marimanti Law courts; in Isiolo, the Isiolo Law courts were selected, while in Marsabit, the Marsabit and Moyale Law courts were selected.
