The Commission invited interested applicants to present their applications, issuing minimum qualifications, guidelines for application, as well as a timeline for the applications.

“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Teachers Service Commission’s website no later than Monday, May 19 2025, midnight,” TSC stated.

To qualify for recruitment, a candidate must be a Kenyan citizen and hold a P1 certificate for primary school positions, or at least a diploma in education for junior and secondary schools, with a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects in KCSE or its equivalent. In addition, one must be a registered teacher with the TSC.

While announcing the vacancies, TSC noted that shortlisted candidates would be required to present original academic and professional certificates. Successful candidates were not to fill out more than one application form, as submitting two or more forms would lead to disqualification.

Other guidelines included a prohibition on manual applications, with preference given to applicants who had not previously been employed by the TSC.

At the same time, the Commission announced a vacancy in the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position, as long-serving Nancy Macharia is set to exit the post.

Consequently, TSC invited interested applicants to submit their applications, outlining minimum qualifications as well as key duties and responsibilities.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 250 (12) of the Constitution and Section 16 (1) of the Act, the Commission is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, who in performance of the functions and duties of office, shall be responsible to the Commission,” TSC stated.

Under the guidance of the Commission, the CEO will be the head of the secretariat, the accounting officer of the Commission, and the custodian of all Commission records.

The CEO will also be responsible for executing decisions of the Commission, assigning duties to and supervising Commission staff, and facilitating, coordinating, and ensuring the execution of the Commission’s mandate.

Furthermore, the new CEO will be instrumental in ensuring staff compliance with public ethics and values, proper and diligent implementation of Part IV of the Act, and performance of any other duties as may be assigned by the Commission under the Act or any other written law.

Minimum qualifications for the position include being a Kenyan citizen, holding a degree in education from a university recognised in Kenya, and having at least ten years’ experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resource, or financial management. The candidate must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Macharia’s replacement will serve a five-year term, with the possibility of reappointment for a further five-year term.
