Moja Expressway Company on Saturday, May 10, announced the six-hour closure of a section of the Museum Hill road that is linked to the Nairobi Expressway.

In a statement, the company announced that the temporary closure of Museum Hill Exit A was to facilitate construction and maintenance works on the busy road.

The closure is scheduled from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, to 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, with motorists advised to use alternative routes such as the Haile Selassie Exit and to plan their travel accordingly.

“Please note that Museum Hill Exit A will be temporarily closed from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, to 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025, to facilitate construction and maintenance works,” the company stated.

“Motorists are advised to plan their trips accordingly or use alternative routes such as the Haile Selassie Exit,” the company further advised.

Museum Hill Exit A serves as a key access point on the Nairobi Expressway, linking the elevated roadway to central Nairobi locations such as the University of Nairobi, Kijabe Street, and Waiyaki Way.

The exit is part of a broader interchange at Museum Hill, which features multiple plazas to facilitate both entry to and exit from the expressway.

The closure appears to be tied to recent expansion efforts along the expressway. Notably, the Haile Selassie Exit Plaza, featuring five lanes designed to ease traffic, was opened in January 2025.

Currently, Museum Hill Exit A has three lanes. Plans to expand it to five lanes and reduce congestion were first revealed in December 2023 by then-Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. However, the expansion remains dependent on ongoing negotiations with the University of Nairobi for land acquisition.

The temporary closure comes just a day after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced a full-day disruption of traffic along Limuru Road on Sunday as the agency carries out maintenance works.

In a notice dated Friday, May 9, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti said the disruption will mainly affect the section near the Aga Khan Primary School in Parklands.

The repair works will include the installation of a footbridge deck for pedestrian crossing at said section of the road, and are set to start on Sunday, May 11, at midnight, according to Kinoti.
