The rider of the motorcycle used to ferry assailants who tracked and killed Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were has been apprehended.
The accused was nabbed at Kibera Darajani area, following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The arrest follows investigations that forensically connected him to the main suspects and placed him at the crime scene on that fateful day.
According to the detectives, the suspect served as the rider of the motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP's vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack.
Upon his nabbing, the accused was found in possession of the motorcycle in question, with the police report revealing that he is a habitual offender who has been on the run for other crimes.
Additionally, the suspect revealed he was paid Ksh50,000 as part of his compensation for trailing the lawmaker.
"Investigations uncovered that the accused is a habitual criminal who masquerades as a Boda Boda operator, often collaborating with armed criminal gangs during their operations,'' a statement from the detectives read in part.
''During interrogation, he disclosed his involvement in the crime, revealing that he had been engaged by the main actors and received a payment of Ksh 50,000 as part of his compensation," it added.
Additionally, the motorcycle recovered from the accused matched the description of the bike captured by CCTV footage near Parliament, which was seen trailing the late MP's vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the suspect has an extensive criminal background, including previous incarceration at Industrial Area Prison, where he encountered some of the individuals involved in this heinous act.
The rider is currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue, with authorities committed to ensuring that justice is served.
The tragedy unfolded on the evening of April 30, when Ong’ondo was ambushed and fatally shot in what authorities believe was a targeted hit. According to police and eyewitness reports, the MP’s car was attacked near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road.
