“We are not intimidated by the killing of our father,” the son of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong'ondo Were boldly told off his father's murderers.

Speaking during his funeral service at the MP's home in Oyugis, Boid Were, Ong'ondo's son, declared that his father's murder would not scare them, and they would continue with his will for the constituency.

“First of all, as a family, we are not intimidated, we can't be intimidated. Mzee was fearless, and what I am sure of is that he never raised a coward. So for those who thought that by eliminating dad they were intimidating us and would succeed, that won't happen,” fearless Were said.

Boid maintained that the death of his father would not disrupt the family's course for the Kasipul constituency, assuring them that he was good enough to take up the role.

“Lastly, I want to tell the people of Kasipul, I will not abandon you, I am with you. Mzee might be gone, but I am here,” he continued.

The family spoke in unison, demanding swift justice for the slain MP and calling on authorities to ensure that those behind his murder are held accountable. They insisted that their father’s killers must be brought to book without compromise or delay.

They stressed that the police must go beyond arresting the executors and instead track down the masterminds behind the crime. According to the family, true justice can only be achieved by apprehending the planners.

“Thank you very much for your support. When we lost Dad, we were very low and sad, but because of your support, we are now strong. One thing I'd like to request is that he gets the justice he deserves,” said Pascal Were, another son of the MP.

Immaculate Were, the MP’s daughter, also paid an emotional tribute to her father. While in tears, she bid farewell to Ong'ondo, noting that she had lost her greatest supporter just a month before her prayer day, which he was to attend.

Both wives praised the MP for his love, not just for the family, but also for the people of Kasipul. They urged the leaders present to continue supporting the constituency and to ensure that the projects he had started do not stall because of his death.

The tragedy unfolded on the evening of April 30, when Ong’ondo was ambushed and fatally shot in what authorities believe was a targeted hit. According to police and eyewitness reports, the MP’s car was attacked near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road.

Investigations into his murder are still ongoing, with the police having arrested nine people so far.
