The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned Kenyans against a TikTok account it says is fake and does not belong to the agency.
In a statement on Thursday, May 15, said unknown people are running the account claiming it is the official account of NTSA, and purporting to offer various services.
The authority clarified that it does not have a TikTok account and only communicates through its official X, Facebook, YouTube channel, and website platforms.
According to a screenshot displayed by the authority, the fake TikTok account, which has a following of 8,621, goes by the name 'ntsaknya'
According to the Authority, the fake TikTok account is a scheme to swindle people, stressing that members of the public approached via the platform should report immediately to the nearest police station.
NTSA has stressed that members of the public should remain vigilant and avoid engaging and sharing personal details with such suspicious platforms.
"NTSA cautions members of the public about a fake TikTok account. Please note that the authority only communicates through its official accounts: X-ntsa-kenya, Facebook-NTSA KENYA, Youtube Channel-NTSA_Kenya, and its official website," it stated.
It added: "If you come across a suspicious account claiming to belong to NTSA, do not engage, report it immediately. Members of the public swindled through such platforms should immediately report to the nearest police station for further action."
Furthermore, the authority has noted that all NTSA service applications and payments are made only through the eCitizen platform.
The announcement comes a month after the Nursing Council of Kenya, through a statement on Thursday, April 10, also issued a similar warning to Kenyans on job swindlers purporting to be from the council who are offering fake jobs.
According to the council, the individuals have been primarily targeting nursing and midwifery students and have been offering fake opportunities, county office jobs, and board positions.
The council urged Kenyans receiving such phone calls to get in touch with the council and share the individual's mobile number or report them to security agencies.
"It has been brought to our attention that various stakeholders have received calls from an individual purporting to be from NCK and that they are offering employment opportunities at the county offices and board positions," it stated.
"Please pay no heed to such calls. These callers are in no way associated with NCK," it added.
