A video showing the exact moment when Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was arrested by individuals believed to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has now emerged.

In the video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, which surfaced on Friday, 16 May, Salasya is seen being nabbed from his alleged hideout in the bushes along the Isiolo–Nanyuki road.

A vehicle believed to belong to the officers is seen parked on the road as an armed officer in uniform mans it. Curious onlookers are seen gathered a few metres away as they witness the situation unfold.

Suddenly, as if on cue, the officer manning the car charges towards the crowd in an effort to disperse it. The small crowd scampers to safety, with some women heard screaming as they run away.

Once safely away from the officer, the crowd converges again on the other side of the road. Moments later, four men emerge from the nearby bushes, heading towards the car.

MP Salasya can be seen in the middle, seemingly handcuffed, as the three other men in plain clothes escort him to the car.

Despite the crowd that had gathered around the scene, the officers went about their business unbothered, as the crowd could only watch. The officers are later seen speeding off as the residents resume their activities.

On Friday, Salasya revealed he had been arrested after an ambush by the alleged DCI officers after addressing a rally in Isiolo.

While narrating details of the ambush, Salasya said that the officers opened fire at his convoy, adding that they were masked men with AK-47 rifles.

Salasya revealed that the alleged officers proceeded to disarm his bodyguards, confiscating their weapons, even as he initially managed to flee.

“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team, confiscated their firearms, and pursued my vehicle. One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety,” he stated.

As for the reasons behind his arrest, Salasya could not provide details, but intimated that he had been threatened by the individuals.

Later reports disclosed that the MP had been taken to Central Police Station, where he was allegedly detained. Salasya’s lawyers informed that he had been charged with making false claims, among other charges.

Furthermore, Salasya’s team revealed that he had been physically harmed, with posts from his X account stating he was limping and had been denied access to medical care.

The relevant authorities are yet to issue a statement on his arrest.
