Journalist Smriti Vidyarthi has landed a new job at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Africa, months after quitting the Nation Media Group (NMG).
In a brief clip shared by the former NTV news anchor on Thursday, 22 May, Vidyarthi announced that she had been appointed as TNC’s Executive Communications Officer for Africa.
The Nature Conservancy is a United States-based global non-profit environmental organisation dedicated to conserving land and water on behalf of humanity.
During the announcement, the vocal journalist expressed her enthusiasm and excitement to join the organisation, adding that she could not wait to tell stories and educate Africans about environmental conservation.
"I am excited to announce that I have joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a global conservation organisation whose mission is to conserve lands and water on which all wildlife depend," Smriti announced.
She went ahead to add, "TNC offers a powerful platform for change as TNC’s Executive Communications Officer for Africa, I can't wait to tell our stories as we conserve our precious landscapes and oceans for people and nature."
Smriti explained that her choice for the role was inspired by her love for wildlife, nature, and environmental conservation, reiterating that it was something that has always been close to her heart.
Similarly, she revealed that the role was influenced by her previous award-winning NTV Wild Talk show that she hosted and co-produced, capturing stories about Kenya’s wildlife and nature.
"You may remember me on NTV, specifically NTV Wild Talk, an award-winning show that I hosted and co-produced that captured stories about Kenya’s wildlife, nature, spaces, conservation challenges and efforts, something that has always been close to my heart," she said.
Vidyarthi quit NTV on February 10 this year, after an illustrious career that spanned over 16 years. During her departure from the media house, Smriti expressed her gratitude to her viewers.
Taking to her X account, she wrote, "Sixteen and a half years of service to the Nation Media Group and the nation at large. Thank you for trusting me."
Moments after her last show at the media house, Smriti was embraced by her colleagues, who showered her with praise. In particular, NMG Editorial Director, Joe Ageyo, termed Smriti as a professional journalist who did her work without fear or favour.
