The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Leader, Cleophas Malala, has revealed that his driver was the subject of a horrific assault over the weekend.

While sharing images of his brutalised driver, the former Kakamega Senator claimed that the Kakamega OCPD, alongside three other officers, had attacked his driver while in pursuit of him.

According to Malala, they trailed his official vehicle, and after realising he was not present, they ordered the driver out and assaulted him with a gun before locking him up at Kakamega Central Police Station for hours.

Eventually, Malala claimed that his driver was taken to Kakamega General Hospital as the officers tried to delete images taken on his phone without success.

"The Kakamega OCPD and three other uniformed officers trailed my vehicle and forced my driver to stop. Disappointingly, upon confirming I was not on board, they commanded him to drive to an unknown destination. When he refused, they assaulted him so severely using a gun pointer that he was left profusely bleeding," Malala relayed.

"Instead of permitting medical aid, they detained him at Kakamega Central Police Station for hours. Only after this unlawful detention was he escorted by armed officers to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment. Shockingly, they attempted to destroy pictorial evidence on his phone—a crude attempt to conceal their actions, to no avail."

The images shared by Malala showed his bloody face; he had suffered from being hit on his forehead. His clothes, a grey suit jacket and a black dress shirt, were also bloody, and his shirt was torn.

Malala denounced the incident and stated that the matter had been escalated to the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) for further investigations.

"This is unconscionable brutality by those sworn to protect us. Our nation sinks deeper into lawlessness when officers become perpetrators. We will not be intimidated—we are formally filing a complaint with IPOA," he stated.

Malala did not reveal the reasons why the four police officers were pursuing him, seemingly because none were provided.

After he shared the images on Facebook, they quickly went viral on X, with many users misconstruing them as images of deceased X influencer Albert Ojwang before his demise.

Ojwang reportedly passed away in a police cell at Nairobi's Central Police Station hours after he was arrested in Homa Bay and driven to Nairobi for reportedly tarnishing the image of the Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat.
