The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to brace for continued rains that are likely to hit most parts of the country this week.
In a statement on Monday, June 9, the weatherman said that counties in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast will receive rains between Tuesday, June 10, and Saturday, June 14.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi counties will experience cloudy skies breaking into sunny intervals throughout the week in the morning, and sunny intervals on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. It is, however, likely to shower over a few places on Tuesday and Saturday afternoon.
It will be partly cloudy for most of the week at night, except on Wednesday, when a few places are likely to be hit by showers.
The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be 6 degrees Celsius.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County, are expected to experience cloudy skies breaking into sunny intervals in the mornings, sunny intervals in the afternoon, and cloudy at night throughout the week.
According to the weatherman, the maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be 12 degrees Celsius.
Residents of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as Tana River County, are set to experience showers over a few places for most mornings, afternoons, and nights throughout the week, except Friday morning and Saturday afternoon, when sunny intervals are likely to be experienced.
These counties are expected to experience a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.
It is predicted that throughout the week, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties are likely to experience sunny intervals in the mornings, and showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the afternoons. The nights are expected to remain partly cloudy during this period.
The maximum temperatures during this period are expected to be 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be 8 degrees Celsius.
Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties are set to experience day-long sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights throughout the week. The maximum temperatures are set to be 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be 17 degrees Celsius.
Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to experience day-long sunny intervals, and partly cloudy nights are expected throughout the forecast period. The maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to be 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be 8 degrees Celsius.
