Several passengers were injured after a Super Metro PSV they were travelling in was involved in an accident near Burudani Address in Juja, Nairobi.
The crash occurred just a few metres before the entertainment joint, causing panic among commuters.
Emergency responders and well-wishers at the scene were seen rescuing the injured and providing first aid as they awaited medical assistance.
The vehicle was heading to the Nairobi CBD from Juja Town, using the service lane on Thika Superhighway, before veering off the road and overturning onto its side.
Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed fellow road users rushing to evacuate trapped passengers, with screams and cries heard from inside the overturned matatu.
The driver and other passengers seated in the cockpit were forced to crawl out through the shattered windscreen. However, the fate of the conductor could not be immediately established, as the vehicle landed on its side during the crash.
As of the time of publishing, no traffic police officers had arrived at the scene, even as a snarl-up began forming along the busy Thika Superhighway.
On Monday, two people were confirmed dead following a road accident along Kiambu Road. The accident, which occurred near AAR Hospital, saw the matatu lose control before veering off the road, leaving scores injured in the process.
The accident, which involved a PSV attached to Metrotrans Sacco, happened on the stretch towards the DCI headquarters.
Medical personnel from AAR were immediately deployed at the scene to assist with the injured passengers as a huge crowd gathered around the mangled vehicle.
On April 11, another Super Metro matatu left several passengers nursing injuries following a road crash that occurred on Thika Road within Ruiru. The incident happened after the driver reportedly failed to notice a lorry ahead and rammed into it from behind.
Passengers who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that the driver had earlier admitted to feeling drowsy and even requested them to engage him in conversation to help him stay awake.
