Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has said that Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria will have to wait until 2028 to assume the party's secretary-general position.

Kioni, speaking on Monday, May 16, during an interview on TV47, clarified that the Jubilee Party's secretary-general post was not readily available, as many may assume.

According to him, the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary must first prove himself, adding that Kuria will have to wait another three years to realise his ambition.

Kioni also reiterated that for Kuria to secure the lucrative party position, he must receive the requisite approval of the party’s National Delegates Council (NDC).

"The position of a secretary-general of any party is not a position available as you walk across or along the road. There is a way through which you are elected as a party leader," Kioni stated.

He went on to add, "The election is done through the National Delegates Council. The earliest we are going to have a Jubilee National Delegates Council is 2028."

Kioni, however, expressed doubt over whether Kuria was serious about his ambition of becoming the party's principal, stating that the President's Advisor was fond of making such remarks without any significant action.

"You have to be very careful when you credit anything that Moses Kuria has said. He is a man we have known in this country, you can never know what all that means," the Jubilee Secretary-General reiterated.

Kioni's response comes 3 days after Moses Kuria shared a poster on his social media accounts announcing his ambition to become the Jubilee party's next Secretary General.

The government advisor in a post shared on Sunday, June 15, depicted him alongside former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is also the party leader, holding hands.

Kuria began by first congratulating Uhuru for regaining full control of the party following years of legal battles with the rebel faction led by Kanini Kega.

"Congratulations, my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for winning back the control of the Jubilee Party. At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions and divisions, the Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping  Kenya safe," Kuria wrote.
