Mombasa Road commuters heading towards Nairobi will experience a temporary traffic disruption this coming weekend, lasting 16 hours over several days.

In a notice on Wednesday, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced that the disruption will happen near Syokimau Railway Station along the Nairobi-bound carriageway.

The disruption will happen between Friday, June 20, at 10pm and Saturday, June 21, at 6am, as well as from Saturday, June 21, at 10pm to Sunday, June 22, at 6am.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound carriageway from Friday, 20th June, 2025 at 10.00pm to Saturday, 21st June, 2025 at 6.00am, and from Saturday, 21 June, 2025 at 10.00pm to Sunday, 22nd June, 2025 at 6.00am," the statement read.

The disruption will allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.

As a result, KeNHA has advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

The alternative routes provided by the authority will help ensure that motorists are not caught in traffic by taking the wrong routes towards the construction site.

Those using the service lane will be mostly affected and will be diverted towards Nairobi Inland Container Depot and Southern Bypass Terminus, just past Katani Road and the Mlolongo Overpass.

This will be the second disruption on Mombasa road in just a week after the authority announced a similar disruption last weekend.

In the previous notice, KeNHA revealed that Mombasa-bound service lanes near Naivas JKIA would be closed from Saturday, June 14, at 9:00 pm to Sunday, June 15, at 10:00 am.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Naivas JKIA will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound service lanes from Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 9:00 pm to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 10:00 am,” a statement from KeNHA read.

The disruption was also to facilitate ongoing constructions, specifically the installation of fabricated beams for the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.

These beams are crucial, particularly because they enhance pedestrian connectivity and safety along the busy Mombasa Road.
