President William Ruto has challenged opposition leaders to offer the youth a better plan for addressing their issues, rather than inciting them to violence.

The Head of State, who spoke on Thursday afternoon while hosting players from Nairobi United Football Club, urged the opposition to shift their politics from mere rhetoric to practical solutions.

“I want my plan of creating employment opportunities for our young people to be tested against that of my competitors,” the President stated.

He pointed out that young people were the nation’s greatest asset, adding that his administration would do everything possible to support the young generation regardless of the current challenges.

In his speech, President Ruto accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other opposition principals of empty sloganeering, adding that the former DP and his team were less serious in tackling the problems facing the nation.

While commenting on the recent protests, Ruto said that the Constitution obligates him to protect the lives and property of all Kenyans, a duty he said he would fully discharge without fear or favour.

“For now, I am the protector of the Constitution, and I will make sure that it is obeyed to the letter,” he reiterated.

During the State House event, the Head of State condemned attempts by individuals he claimed were hired goons to vandalise Talanta Stadium, which is currently under construction.

At the same time, he said the government is implementing various policies and programmes to ensure that Nairobi becomes more liveable for both residents and visitors.

He went on to explain that the clean-up of the polluted Nairobi River was well underway and on schedule to be completed within the next two years.

Further, President Ruto revealed that the national government would work jointly with the Nairobi County Government to collect garbage and improve the city’s road network.

“Nairobi being the headquarters of the United Nations Environmental Programme means that we have to make Nairobi clean by all means,” the Head of State noted.
