The Motorists Association is demanding a clear and transparent explanation regarding the resignation of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Director General, Kung'u Ndung'u, and his Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) counterpart, Philemon Kandie.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, the motorists called on Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir to explain the main reason behind the simultaneous resignation of the two officials.

According to the Association, the departure of two Director Generals on the same day was not only unusual but also suggested coordinated action behind the scenes.

While demanding a response from the CS, the motorists described Ndung'u and Kandie's resignations as “deeply concerning” and “sudden,” adding that their departure raised more questions than answers.

"These resignations raise more questions than answers. Is this a case of voluntary exit, or a quiet purge disguised as resignations?" the motorists questioned.

"Such developments, especially involving senior public officials overseeing critical agencies in our road sector, cannot go unexplained," they added.

The Association noted that it is their constitutional right to know why the two officials resigned, whether it was a genuine resignation or a silent dismissal.

The duo resigned yesterday within similar timelines, sparking wild reactions from Kenyans who demanded to know why the two high-profile officials departed.

In a statement issued by the KeNHA Board of Directors on Friday, July 11, the Roads Agency confirmed the acceptance of Ndungu’s resignation. However, it did not provide reasons for his exit.

Following Ndung'u's resignation, the Board announced the appointment of Luka Kimeli to serve as the acting director general with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the KERRA boss, Kandie, also resigned on the same day, barely two years before the end of his term. His resignation was announced by KeRRA’s Board of Directors, who also announced Jackson Magondu as Kandie's replacement.

“The Authority wishes to inform the general public of the resignation of Eng. Philemon Kandie, MBS, as the Director General of Kenya Rural Roads Authority, effective 11th July, 2025,” a statement from KeRRA read.
