The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced it will convene its National Delegates Convention (NDC) in October 2025, a key event that will set the stage for the 2027 General Elections.
According to the party, the NDC will be used to elect national party officials. This is an opportunity for the party to renew or change its leadership as it prepares for the next elections.
Additionally, the NDC will review and adopt party policy positions, receive reports from various organs, and chart the party’s political direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.
''The Central Committee set October 2025 as the month for convening the National Delegates Convention (NDC). The NDC will, among other matters, consider reports from party organs, review and adopt party policy positions, elect national officials, and chart the path forward in readiness for the 2027 General Elections,'' the statement by the party, signed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, read in part.
In the same meeting, the ODM Central Committee also adopted a national programme for the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations (ODM@20), which will be marked across all counties and culminate in a major national event in October.
The celebrations will reflect on the party’s journey, achievements, and future direction.
Repeat Elections
The party has ordered repeat party elections in Kwale, Taita Taveta, and Kileleshwa Ward in Dagoretti North, Nairobi, following complaints and disputes over the initial exercise.
The party announced that its Central Committee, chaired by the party leader Raila Odinga, resolved to nullify the earlier results and conduct fresh elections at all levels - from the polling unit to the branch level.
The repeat polls will take place between August 11 and August 15, 2025, under the supervision of the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) and the Party Secretariat.
The decision follows internal reviews and reports submitted from the affected areas, which cited irregularities and concerns from party members during the grassroots election process.
''However, after deliberating on reports from the counties of Kwale and Taita Taveta as well as Kileleshwa Ward in Dagoretti North, Nairobi City County, the Committee resolved that elections in those two counties be repeated from the polling unit level up to the branch level,'' the statement added.
In early April, the party dismissed all county election coordinators in Nairobi County just before its grassroots elections.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 2, the party's SG Sifuna also confirmed the expulsion of the chair of the elections coordinators in Migori and some coordinators in Siaya counties.
