Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has nominated 14 persons to be Chief Officers in his county government, signalling an incoming change to senior county leadership.
Through a notice released on Wednesday, July 16, Barasa announced the nominated persons, who were shortlisted after a competitive recruitment drive and interviews.
The nominations are in critical areas of the county government, such as economic planning, ICT, financial management, public health, roads and energy, lands, survey and physical planning as well as county administration.
“Following competitive recruitment and interviews of shortlisted candidates by the County Public Service Board and according to section 45(1) of the County Governments Act 2012, 1 hereby nominate the following officers for appointment as Chief Officers subject to approval by the County Assembly,” read the notice by the Governor.
The governor nominated Rose Muhanda Manyenya as Chief Officer for Public Health and Engineer Joseph Agingu Sweta for the position of Roads and Energy.
He also nominated Christine Oside Kimunguyi for the position of Social Services, Gender, and Culture. Anslem Lubonga Malinya was also nominated as Chief Officer for Education, Science, and Technology.
For the Chief Officer for Cooperatives, Barasa nominated Daniel Seth Sumba. In Technical Services, the county boss nominated Isaack Abdulahi Maalim. Barasa also tapped Ismael Maina Makanga for the position of Lands, Survey, and Physical Planning.
Governor Barasa also named Henry Marende Kamuyu (PWD) as Chief Officer for Special Programmes. In the area of Youth and Sports, Barasa nominated Lawrence Mafuta Makoyani.
Samuel Ambrose Makhoha was nominated as Chief Officer for County Administration, while Mildred Neema was nominated as Chief Officer for Communication and e-Government.
Barasa also handed the Chief Officer role for Economic Planning and Investment to Samuel Imbanga and nominated Suleiman Wanekeya as ICT Chief Officer. CPA Diminah Chikamai rounded off the nominations, being nominated to the role of Financial Management.
The nominations came after the county government of Kakamega had advertised for the positions of Chief Officers in May, inviting suitable candidates to apply for the available posts.
If approved by the County Assembly, the nominated COs are set to serve on a two-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
