Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that some police officers in Nakuru County have reached out to him, claiming they have been receiving orders from Governor Susan Kihika's husband, Sam Mburu.
Speaking in Boston hours after his team was teargassed in Subukia, Nakuru County, Gachagua claimed that the police officers had revealed to him Mburu's influence in the county stemmed from a close business relationship with President Ruto.
"I have talked to the police in Nakuru, and they are crying. They are saying that the husband of Governor Susan Kihika, called Sam Mburu, is the one who is giving instructions to police," Gachagua claimed.
Gachagua further alleged that the police officers had decried the Nakuru first gentleman's claim that while Governor Kihika is in charge of the county government, he is in charge of the operations of the national government.
The former DP claimed that Mburu had bragged to the police officers of his close personal and business relationship with the President that involved sharing profits on several imported goods that Mburu carries out in place of President Ruto.
Among the goods, Gachagua alleged the two imported together were Kenya Power metres, fertiliser, as well as duty-free rice and sugar.
The DCP leader added that Mburu had threatened to transfer any police officer who disobeyed his orders, claiming he funded the President's campaigns and thus had the power to do so.
"The police went there, and they were so shaken, yet they knew it was illegal to stop the meeting. They told Senator Methu that since they were at work, they would pretend to throw a few tear gas cannisters in different directions because they also agreed with us," he relayed.
"The police told them, "We are also suffering. This man is not anyone in Kenya; he is not a government official, but the fact that he does business with William Ruto, he is loading over everybody in Nakuru, threatening us that he is the President of Nakuru." So, President William Ruto, why don't you do business with Sam Mburu and leave it at that?"
Due to this alleged disruption, Gachagua revealed that he had urged his Nakuru supporters not to vote for Governor Kihika for a second term.
On Sunday afternoon, the DCP convoy was blocked along the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway when they were heading to Subukia, as the police officers lobbed teargas at them.
In images and videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Nyandarua Senator John Methu was seen attempting to negotiate a way through alongside the party's deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala.
