A potential crisis was averted in Trans Nzoia County after police recovered a G3 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition from a local workplace.

The breakthrough came following an employer's alert, leading to the intervention by law enforcement.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the recovery on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after officers from Maili Saba Police Station acted on the report from the concerned employer on Friday.

According to the NPS, the employer had raised suspicions that one of their employees was secretly possessing an illegal firearm within the premises.

"Yesterday, police officers at Maili Saba Police Station received a report from an employer who suspected that one of their employees was in possession of an illegal firearm," the NPS stated, underscoring the importance of public cooperation in enhancing security.

Police, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Maili Saba, responded to the alert and initiated a search of the workplace premises in Trans Nzoia.

The officers discovered the powerful G3 rifle, fully loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition.

The weapon was found cleverly concealed inside an unused hen house, specifically hidden between two unmounted flat doors, making detection difficult.

However, the employee suspected of secreting the illegal firearm managed to flee the scene before police could apprehend them.

Officers have since launched an active manhunt for the suspect, aiming to bring them in for questioning regarding the weapon.

In an official statement, the NPS underscored its commitment to public safety, urging citizens to assist ongoing investigations by reporting any information that could lead to the recovery of illegal firearms.

"The National Police Service remains committed to ensuring that illegal firearms do not fall into the wrong hands," the statement affirmed.

This latest recovery follows a pattern of G3 rifles being seized in Trans Nzoia and across the country.

In May 2023, a G3 rifle was also retrieved in Trans Nzoia when an armed robber abandoned it during a failed attack.

More recently, in December 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered another G3 rifle, loaded with two rounds, while arresting several robbery suspects in Samburu East.
