President William Ruto has nominated Dr Amani Yuda Komora as the new chairperson of the National Police Service Commission and Angeline Yiamiton Siparo as a member.

In a notice issued on August 4, the president nominated the two to join four other members of the commission.

"It is notified that His Excellency the President, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 250(2)(b) of the Constitution and in accordance with the procedure set out under Section 9(5) of the National Police Service Commission Act (Chapter 85, Laws of Kenya), has nominated the Chairperson and one member of the National Police Service Commission," part of the notice read.

However, the two are not new to holding public offices, with the chairperson nominee serving in several other state corporations, including the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), where he is the immediate former Vice-Chairperson.

He has also served in several other capacities before SRC, including as the General Manager, Human Resource and Administration at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Assistant Commissioner, Human Resources at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Member of the National General Wages Council.

Komora also holds a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Human Resource Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Siparo, on the other hand, has served as the coordinator of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Legacy Localisation Project across 49 countries and the Chairperson of the National Aids Control Council (2016-2022).

She also previously served in various institutions, including Oxford HR (AU/Africa CDC), Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB), Population Reference Bureau (PRB), UNAIDS, Futures Group International, and Family Health International (FHI).

She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology from USIU-Africa.

The new nominations follow the recommendation of the Selection Panel appointed to recruit nominees for appointment as Chairperson and Members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

In a shortlist published on March 15 by the Public Service Commission, notable names like former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Margaret Wanjala and former Gatanga MP Humphrey Kimani were listed as possible chairpersons to replace Eliud Kinuthia after his term ran out.

The two new nominees join members Peris Muthoni Kimani, Edwin Cheluget, Benjamin Juma Imai, and Prof. Collete A. Suda.
