The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has directed the national and county government entities to apply for reflective plates for their vehicles before August 29.
In a notice on Thursday, August 7, the authority informed holders of vehicles in both governments that they only had 21 days left to comply with this directive.
"Ensure all county and national government vehicles are fitted with the new generation number plates by August 29, 2025," the notice read.
Those who run into any difficulties during the process have been advised to reach the authority through its official channels.
This comes just months after NTSA released a step-by-step process on how to apply for the new generation number plates on May 21.
In the notice, all ministries were directed to comply with the directive, which required official vehicles to be fitted with the second-generation plates.
Application Process
To apply for these reflective plates, you will need to first log in to the NTSA TIMS portal using your eCitizen credentials. You can also use your personal NTSA profile.
Next, select the "Vehicle Registration" option from the dashboard and select “Apply for Reflective Plate”. You will then be prompted to select the type of vehicle you are applying for before clicking "Next" to proceed.
You should then select the reason for the application, which in this case is "New Generation Plate" as the preferred option. You will be required to upload the relevant documents in PDF format, including the vehicle logbook and images of the front and rear plates.
Subsequently, you will be asked to choose the shape you wish to have for the new generation plates. It could be either square or oblong, depending on the vehicle's design.
You will then be prompted to select the preferred method to receive a notification about the application status. For most applicants, SMS is the preferred method. You will then be required to choose a preferred collection location from a list of NTSA-approved centres and submit the ID number of the individual who will come to collect the new plates.
The final step is the payment of Ksh3,050 through the NTSA portal's integrated payment system, after which you should expect an SMS notification detailing when and where the new plates can be collected.
