Nairobi Traffic Commander Joseph Chirchir has announced the closure of various sections of Aerodrome, Lang’ata, and Mombasa Roads ahead of the next round of African Nations Championship (CHAN) fixtures slated for Sunday, August 10.

Through an official notice released on Saturday, August 9, Chirchir revealed that Aerodome Road would be closed from the Madaraka roundabout to the Bunyala roundabout.

Lang’ata Road would be closed from the Madaraka roundabout to Lusaka roundabout, albeit on one side.

Consequently, motorists using this road heading to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) were diverted to Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at the Mbagathi roundabout.

At the same time, Chirchir disclosed that Mombasa Road would be closed on one side from the Lusaka roundabout to the Bunyala roundabout.

As a result, motorists using this road heading to the CBD were diverted to Likoni Enterprise Road at General Motors and the Southern Bypass at the Ole Sereni Hotel.

Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road to access Ruiru, Juja, and Thika were diverted to use Limuru or Kiambu Road.

Matatus ferrying passengers to the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani were diverted to use Ruaraka Baba-Ndogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo roundabout.

Motorists heading towards the CBD from Thika Road were advised to use either the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

“Avoid Thika Road unless going to Kasarani Stadium,” the traffic boss warned.

The third round of Group A fixtures in the ongoing CHAN tournament will see Kenya’s Harambee Stars lock horns with Morocco at 3 pm in Kasarani. The other group fixture will see Zambia face Angola at 6 pm at Nyayo Stadium.

Kenya currently heads Group A with four points, after one win and a draw. In their most recent game, Harambee Stars played out to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Angola. This was despite having gone down to ten men early in the game after Marvin Odhiambo saw red in the 20th minute.

Hot on the heels of Harambee Stars are Morocco, who are favourites to win the competition, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who are tied on three points each.

Angola is fourth with one point, after a loss and a draw, while Zambia is last with zero points, having lost their only game at the tournament so far.

A win for Benni McCarthy’s side against Morocco would send Kenya to the quarter finals with a game to spare, earning them Ksh60 million from President William Ruto in the process.
