Several people are feared dead after an ENA Coach bus travelling from Nairobi to Migori was involved in a fatal accident in the Mai Mahiu area at around 11pm on Saturday night.

Reportedly, the bus crashed after it was hit from behind by a trailer whose brakes reportedly failed, taking down the bus and other vehicles, including personal cars.

The two vehicles are said to have been navigating the dangerous Mai Mahiu steep climb section when the truck's brakes failed, leading to the accident.

Several passengers also sustained injuries and were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Although fatalities have been reported, the exact number of people who succumbed is yet to be publicly reported.

Images seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the aftermath of the accident with the personal cars mangled in the middle of the road and the bus overturned on the side of the road.

This comes just days after 25 people were killed in a road accident in Kisumu County, western Kenya, on Friday evening.

The group, which had been travelling in a school bus from a funeral, were involved in the accident when it veered off the road and overturned into a ditch at Coptic Roundabout along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

Following the accident, 10 women, 10 men and one girl died at the scene, with 20 passengers injured, five of them seriously. Four people later died in the hospital.

So far, the authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident, although the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced that investigations had commenced.

Just the day before, on Thursday, nine others died after a collision between a cargo train and a Kenya Pipeline Company bus at the Morendat Junction in Naivasha.

The bus, which had been ferrying passengers, had reportedly attempted to cross the railway line in front of the oncoming train, which failed to stop fast enough despite the engineer's effort.
