The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has issued a notice to its members ahead of the upcoming by-elections announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, the party outlined constituencies and wards where members are required to verify their membership details to take part in the exercise.
The constituencies listed include Baringo, Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja. The wards affected include Angata Nanyokie, Chemundu/Kapng’etuny, Chewani, Fafi, Kariobangi North, Kisa East, Metkei, Mumbuni North, Kabuchai/Chwele, Narok Town, Purko, Tembelio, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, Lake Zone, and Nanaam.
ODM explained that membership verification is currently ongoing and urged members in the listed areas to confirm their details and status in preparation for the by-elections.
To verify their membership, ODM members can dial *483*036# or visit the party’s official membership website.
The party further clarified that its membership registration portal has been temporarily disabled until after the conclusion of the by-elections. This means no new registrations will be accepted during this period.
ODM also cautioned members that there will be no changing of membership registration centres during the verification exercise.
The directive is expected to help streamline the process and ensure that only verified members are eligible to participate in the upcoming by-elections.
The party urged all members in the affected regions to comply with the notice to avoid being locked out of the process.
''Members in those areas are further informed that the membership registration portal has been disabledhence no new registration until after the completion of the by-elections,'' the statement from ODM read in part.
ODM maintained that it remains committed to transparency and accountability in its internal party processes, especially in the management of membership ahead of crucial by-elections.
Meanwhile, various political parties are expected to hold their party primaries before November 27, when the IEBC will be conducting by-elections to fill in gaps that have been in the affected constituencies for months now.
