A man was apprehended by an angry crowd allegedly on Tuesday August 19, 2025 night after being accused of impersonating a police officer and assaulting a young boy.
The incident, which was captured on video, unfolded after citizens reportedly saw the man, dressed in what appeared to be a police uniform, assaulting the boy.
In a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the crowd surrounded the man and demanded that he take the boy to the hospital.
In the clip, the man is heard defending himself, claiming he worked at Kamukunji Police Station, a detail the crowd appeared to dismiss as they continued to question him.
The details of what the boy was doing or how the incident started are still unknown and police have yet to release an official statement on the matter.
Fake Identification
When the man was asked to show his identification, the crowd noticed that the names on his national ID and police card were different.
Initially, he insisted that both IDs belonged to him and that he had received the police ID at the station.
However, he eventually changed his story, admitting that he was not a real police officer and begging for the public's forgiveness.
This incident comes just months after another man was caught by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kirinyaga for also posing as a police officer. His arrest led to the recovery of several pieces of government equipment.
The man was apprehended in Kirinyaga East Sub-County and later took officers to his home in Thika's Makongeni area.
There, a search of his premises revealed a collection of government items, including two police smoke jackets, two pairs of jungle green trousers, a green prison lanyard, desert military boots, and a replica firearm, among other things.
