It is still unclear how many passengers were in the vehicle, but the driver is said to have sustained serious injuries.

The incident comes hours after two trucks were involved in an accident along the Makutano-Kenol highway.

According to reports, one lorry heading towards Makutano allegedly lost control, veered into the path of oncoming traffic, and collided with another truck, and eventually plunged into a river.

The early afternoon incident caused a major traffic snarl-up on the Nairobi-bound lane of the highway.

Following the incident, several individuals are said to have lost their lives, but the exact number is yet to be confirmed by the authorities.

According to images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke,  the front part of the other lorry that was hit was completely destroyed.

Just minutes after the incident, tens of residents were seen surrounding the scene, trying to help in rescue efforts.

Emergency services and law enforcement were then deployed to the site to manage the situation and assist with recovery efforts.
