The Social Health Authority has debunked claims that some hospitals have yet to receive payments from the authority.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 20, SHA stated that Ksh3.4 billion has so far been disbursed to all contracted facilities countrywide.

The Ksh3.4 billion was disbursed to fund claims for inpatient care, drug and substance abuse cover, mental wellness, critical care, and surgeries.

"The Social Health Authority (SHA) has disbursed Ksh3.4 billion to health facilities nationwide for Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) claims for inpatient care, drugs and substances abuse cover, mental wellness, critical care, and surgeries," the statement read in part.

Specifically, SHA pointed out the Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital, whose claims had been circulating on social media, alleging that it had yet to receive any funds.

The authority revealed that the facility had received and confirmed the receipt of Ksh19 million for the period between January and June, and that the circulating claims were false.

"In response to a list circulating on social media, SHA clarifies that Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital received KES 19 million for inpatient long stays and maternity services for the period January to June 2025," the statement read.

"The Level 4 hospital has confirmed receipt of the funds. SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency."

Besides the Ksh3.4 billion for treatment, SHA confirmed that an additional Ksh1.09 billion had been disbursed from the Primary Health Care Fund.

It further stated that a further Ksh1.7 billion is being processed for special treatments such as dialysis, oncology, and surgical claims.

Lastly, SHA revealed that an updated list of disbursements would be published on the SHA website in due course and made available for public scrutiny.

On July 14, the authority's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) assured over 9000 healthcare facilities that verified claims would be processed and disbursed in two phases.

“We wish to inform contracted Health Care Providers that reviewed and verified claims payments under Primary Health Care (PHC) and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) will be processed and disbursed on 14th and 21st July 2025,” the statement read.
